TennisLeeper Park Tennis Center

Why Leeper Park? Leeper Park Tennis Center is located south of the St. Joseph River, near Memorial Hospital in downtown South Bend. The facility has 14 lighted courts, a pro shop, snack bar and both women’s and men’s locker rooms. Tennis programs for children (ages3 and up) and adults of all levels are offered throughout the summer. In addition to the programs at Leeper Park the South Bend Parks & Recreation Department offers tennis programs at other parks and schools throughout the city. Leeper Park Tennis Center Hours
Beginning April 28
Monday – Friday* 4 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.
*Call for availability, due to high school tennis schedules,.

Beginning June 9
Monday – Friday** 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday – Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
**closing times may vary depending on usage so call and come out.

Sign-ups: At Leeper Park Saturday April 26 is the first day of registration 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Win prizes, try out equipment, and meet staff on this day. Class availability is limited, the sooner you sign up the better. After April 26 you may sign up in person during our regular business hours. Call the Leeper Park Tennis Center 235-9405 for more information on sign-ups.

Free tennis lessons will be offered at the following parks:
Monday - Thursday: Boehm Park 9 - 11 AM
Monday & Wednesday: Charles Black Center 9 AM -12Noon
Tuesday & Thursday: Martin Luther King Center 9 AM -12Noon

USTA Jr. Team Tennis:
Jr League - (10 & under) Mon & Wed 1-3pm. USTA number required at sign-up.
Jr League - (12 & under) Mon & Wed 1-3pm. USTA number required at sign-up.
Jr League - (14 & under) Mon & Wed 1-3 pm. USTA number required at sign-up.
High school League - (18 & under) Tue & Thur 1-3 pm USTA number required.
Co-ed teams compete against other teams in their league. League will end on July 24, with district playoff if your team qualifies. Sign-up deadline is June 9. Section play for teams that qualify at district. National play for teams that qualify at Section level.
All players must have a USTA number. Go on line to get USTA number www.usta.com

Ralleyball Ages 6 - 12
Children learn tennis by playing on teams. This popular program is designed for beginning players ages 6-12. No experience necessary. Children learn to play the game while competing on teams coached by Leeper Staff. A total of 7 Ralley days
Session 1 Wednesdays and Fridays June 11th – July 3 - 11am - noon or 5-6pm
Awards and picnic on last day.
Session 2 Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 8 –July 31 4-5pm.

Cost $25/R,$30/NR

Friday Nights: 7-10pm
A great chance to meet people and play singles or doubles in a social atmosphere
Cost: $2.00 - adults, $.50 - seniors. (Recommended for 3.0-4.5 players)

2.0 – 3.0 Tennis League
Saturday 10:00 am – noon. June 14th – Aug 9th
Sunday Evenings 6:00 – 8:00
Cost: $10.00 for league. Court time $2.00 - Adults $.50 - seniors. (per session)
(Recommended for players 2.0 and above)
This program is geared toward women/men that want to have fun and competition.
There will be awards and a picnic at conclusion of the season.

South Bend Metro Tennis Championships are open to all players regularly playing in St. Joseph County. Adults July 5-14 and Juniors July 15-20 Register at Leeper Park.

Junior Excellence: Ages 8 - 18
Have you been playing tennis for awhile now? Do you want to take your game to the next level? Move up a spot on your high school team? Improve your performance at USTA tournaments? This program is aimed at juniors who want to compete at the next level.

Jr Elite Tennis Ages 8 - 18
This program is aimed at kids ages 8-18 who want to compete at a higher level. Emphasis is on stroke production, tactics, conditioning and mental toughness. This program is aimed at the areas finest tennis talent. Please fill out an application at Leeper Park. Financial assistance is available.
Fees 6 Lessons $65 Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30-7:30 p.m. 2 Sessions.

Day Time Lessons
*Racquets are provided for all lessons, if needed.*
Pee Wee Tennis. Ages 3 & 4 (45 minute lessons)
Taught by enthusiastic and energetic instructors, these 45-minute lessons are intended to get kids started in the game of tennis. Children develop hand-eye coordination through a variety of tennis related activities. Fee $20/R,$25/NR

Little Shots. Ages 5 – 7 (45 minute lessons)
Through a variety of tennis specific activities, Little Shots develop a beginning knowledge of the game.. Through drills and games, children will develop hand eye coordination and agility in a fun energetic environment. ALSO check out Ralleyball information. Fee $20/R,$25/NR

Beginners/Advanced Beginners: Ages 8-15 (1 hour lessons)
Through a variety of drills and games, beginners are taught the basics of tennis, from groundstrokes and volleys to scoring and serves. Continuing players review skills and play out more points. Fee $25/R,$30/NR

Intermediate: (1 hour lessons)
For players who have passed beginner and advanced beginner levels and are able to sustain a short rally with another player. An intermediate should be fairly comfortable with grips and strokes and should have a fair amount of success serving.
Fee $25/R,$30/NR

Adults should try Parents Too! Take a lesson at the same time as the children’s classes. (1hr lessons)

Special Programs at Leeper Park
Junior Mini-Camp July 28-Aug 1 9a.m. – 12 noon. Cost $95 includes T-shirt, snacks, and awards. Ages 6-16. Format: instruction, drills, and match play with a break for snacks.
