Rum Village Wildlife
Have you ever seen a pileated woodpecker?

This crow-sized woodpecker nests in Rum Village park and is one of the many beautiful birds that you might see on a hike through the trails. Over a hundred species of birds have been seen in Rum Village Park. Barred owls have nested near the nature center for the last 6 years. Hooded warblers can be heard singing throughout the summer. Scarlet and summer tanagers are among the regular visitors to the nature center’s backyard wildlife area.

In addition to birds, an observant hiker might see foxes, deer, hognose snakes, tree frogs, salamanders and fascinating insects.

In the spring, the Rum Village woods are full of wildflowers– spring beauties, trillium, trout lilies and more. By mid-summer you may be lucky enough to see the rare green dragon.
