Enjoy white water rafting in downtown South Bend on Niles Avenue. All equipment is provided. Rubber soled shoes with heel straps are required, no flip-flops and no sharp jewelry or objects may be worn.  Prepare to get wet! Required height for rafting is 54”. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult in the raft.

Tickets for rafting will only be sold until 4:30 or 4:45 pm depending on the crowd. Final rafters will be at 4:50 p.m.

On rare occasions the East Race will close if there is flooding, thunderstorms, or if the City is in a state of emergency (e.g. storm damage).  If you are traveling from a distance, it is recommended that you check online and/or call the East Race phone (574-233-6121) for a recorded message.

Approximately 240,000 people have enjoyed the East Race Waterway since opening in 1984.

The East Race runs at a 2 rating during recreational rafting and kayaking hours.

What is the flow speed of the East Race? 
The East Race normally runs at a flow of 450 – 500 cubic feet per second.

What is involved in a kayak test? 
One should have a good brace.  The East Race is not the place for first time kayakers.

Is there a place to rent kayaks?
Not on the premises.

Are there changing rooms?  No, but a handicap accessible portable restroom facility is available along with an outdoor rinse shower.

Will I get wet? 
Yes.  It is recommended that you bring an extra set of clothes (e.g. socks, shorts, t-shirt, shoes) and towels.  An old pair of shoes is recommended.  FLIP FLOPS ARE NOT ALLOWED. SHOES MUST TIE OR HAVE A HEEL STRAP.
