Lifeguard and WSI Classes
The South Bend Parks and Recreation Department offers lifeguard and WSI classes countywide. The classes are held in the Spring at multiple locations, dates, and times to try and meet the needs of the participants.
Lifeguard Class:
To participate in our Red Cross certified Lifeguard Classes the participant must be at least 15 years of age, by the completion of the class and be able to pass the pre-requisites. The pre-requisites include a timed brick retrieval from a submerged position and a 300 yard swim consisting of front crawl and breast stroke, only.
Clay High School (19131 Darden Road)
Classes: Wednesdays 6pm -9pm
Dates: February 8, 2012 to March 28, 2012 or April 11, 2012 to May 23, 2012.
Riley High School (1902 South Fellows)
Class: Wednesdays 3:30pm -6:30pm
Date: March 14, 2012 to May 9, 2012
Notre Dame's Rockne Pool (Notre Dame Campus)
Class: Monday thru Friday 8am -4pm
Date: June 11, 2012 to June 15, 2012
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Class:
To participate in our Red Cross certified WSI class the participant must be at least 16 years of age, by the completion of the class and be able to pass the pre-requisites. The pre-requisites include a Red Cross FIT class and demonstration of competency in all 6 strokes. These strokes are: front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke.

Class: Friday thru Friday 8am -5pm
Date: June 8, 2012 to June 15, 2012
