South Bend Parks Foundation

Statement & Purpose

Provides resources to build community through people, parks and programs.

The purpose of the Foundation is to provide additional means of discretionary funding for the programs of the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department and also to bring a higher awareness to the people of South Bend and surrounding communities as to the value of programs that the Parks' programs provide.

What are the plans for the future?

The Foundation Board will focus on:

  • The opening of financial doors that will cultivate individuals that are capable of giving dollars to our programs through the members on this board.
  • Raising finances to begin providing discretionary dollars to be used for the funding of various parks programs with the guidance and leadership of the Executive Director.
  • The involvement and eventual running of a special event to benefit the Parks Department.
  • Focus on semi-annual giving campaigns.
  • Access new grants that we would not otherwise qualify for if we were not 501(c)3.
  • Help represent the Parks in the community by speaking about or supporting  various initiatives within the Parks.
  • Engage more people in a dynamic empowerment and ownership of the Parks Dept. without getting involved in the day-to-day administrative responsibilities.
